She adds:

All his friends would come up. Every so often we’d have a great influx of chaps helping. We had his father up here for a lot of the time. They were such a lovely family. And Nanny and Annunziata were here. There was a brother who came as well. He was nothing like Jacob. Jacob wasn’t like any of the family. He’s got his own appearance.21

Jacqui Seymour remembers that he was always able to stay calm under pressure and says she saw at first hand his unflappability as he engaged with the public when out in busy areas with his loudhailer. He also displayed a degree of moral courage, a facet of his personality that he would be called upon to display not infrequently in years to come.

[On one occasion] quite a lot of people had gathered round. And there were one or two who were shouting at him and he never moved away from any kind of challenge when people challenged him. He would just pick up on what they’d said and deal with it. And within moments he had them eating out of his hand.
